Weaving Class

The course will introduce you to the basic skills involved in creating a woven tapestry, from warping up a simple frame loom to exploring woven techniques.

No previous experience is necessary.

The class is limited to a small number to allow lots of one-to-one teaching.

All materials and equipment are provided and also plenty of knowledge and inspirational materials to help you design your weave.

Completion of a basic weaving course is necessary before learning different techniques to know how to:

• Set up a frame loom

• Control weft tension to keep straight edges

• Create lines, shapes and curves

• Dealing with slits and interlocking weft

• Develop ideas for design

• Finishing and presenting work

Participants will have the opportunity to learn and master 7 different weaving techniques which are the following:

• Plain weave

• Slit weave

• Twill weave

• Pile weave

• Sumak

• Tapestry – French Gobelin and

• Knotted-pile with Ghiordes.

By the end of the class, you will have produced a small woven piece of art.

Please note that completion of the basic weaving course (Plain weave) is necessary before learning the desired technique you choose. The weaving techniques I teach cannot be mastered without this knowledge. In this way, the learning process of the techniques is faster.

The Plain, Slit, Twill and Pile techniques can be mastered during a session that is 4 hours long. The price is £ 65 per class per person.

Of the carpet weaving techniques, Knotted-Pile, Sumak, and Tapestry are the most difficult and concentration-intensive techniques. They also require more yarn than other flat weaving techniques. They take more time to learn, practice, and prepare therefore they can be learned in two sessions. These factors reflected in the course prices. The price is £ 65 per session per person.
